摘要
This chapter presents an example of how a small, apparently isolated community can use its unique assets and attractions to promote itself and enrich life for locals and visitors. This description may provide useful information for other isolated communities. The paper describes the distinctiveness of Shetland, and how this is protected and promoted by Shetland Islands Council and in the work and ambitions of Shetland¿s cultural bodies, Shetland Arts and the Shetland Amenity Trust. Finally, the calendar of cultural events which are put on throughout the year by this small, yet active community is described.
