Description of project aims
Regenerative agriculture promotes maintenance of living roots in the soil, keeping the soils covered and protected, maximizing plant diversity in space and time. However, this can be more difficult to achieve in more northerly climes that are generally cooler and wetter, experience longer winters and shorter growing seasons. This project aims to assess the potential to incorporate cover crops into barley production systems in the challenging environments of the Northeast Scotland, where cover crops adoption levels are currently low.
