Description of project aims
This collaborative project employs a variety of strategies drawn from contemporary art to engage communities in the northern and Arctic regions in an exploration of the Cold War period as it exists physically in the landscape and in the memory. The research uses art to re-imagine this period and ask how the Cold War impacts on local populations in both past and present. Field work involves participants in creative activities and experiences to explore the legacy of the Cold War and the question of our nuclear futures. The research considers how socially engaged art practices can facilitate the excavation of hidden memories and stimulate new understanding of our nuclear futures. Collaboration with individuals as well as organisational or institutional partnerships is undertaken as appropriate. To date collaborative partners have included Astildur
