Simon Bradley joined UHI (Lews Castle College) in 2012 and teaches on the HNC Music, BA Applied Music and MA Music and the Environment programs. The HNC is residential face to face and the BA and MA are networked and blended with extensive use of VC and Blackboard VLE alongside residential contact involving a range of teaching styles and pedagogies.
Simon is Module Leader of 4 BA and 1 MA Modules. He has designed and delivered all content and was involved in the validation and revalidation processes for both programmes.
Simon was awarded Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2017 and previously achieved BSc Geology, MSc Transport Planning and Engineering and Postgraduate Certificate in Managing Rural Sustainable Development.
Prior to joining UHI Simon enjoyed a professional musical performing career and leads an ongoing research project, Albastur Cultural Exchange, which integrates staff, students and musicians from Scotland and Asturias (Northern Spain) in collaborations, field trips, performances and teaching opportunities.
Services Expertise
Simon's compositions are widely performed in the traditional music scene and he published a book of his tunes 'Buncrana to Baleshare' and accompanying CD 'Grogarry Lodge' for which he was nominated for BBC MG Alba's 'Composer of the Year 2012' . As composer in residence at local Museum & Arts Centre 'Taigh Chearsabhagh' in March 2012, Simon explored transience in coastal habitation in the Uists. His innovative approach combined visual and musical compositions which were selected to exhibit at London's Apothecary Gallery in 2013.
Simon is curator of a collaboration between three of Scotland’s most acknowledged traditional composers, Simon Bradley, Mairearad Green and Ross Ainslie. This project ‘TuneBook’ has involved numerous top level performances at festivals and radio and the recording of a CD ‘Melody Lab’ in 2014.
Simon is Artistic Director of Albastur Cultural Exchange (ACE) which is ongoing since 2013. The remit is to explore and investigate the Scottish and Asturian Celtic traditions and forge strong cultural links between them.
