Action urged over soaring textile waste

新闻 / 媒体: Other

Description

UHI North, West and Hebrides held a meeting at their Stornoway Campus at the end of last year to explore issues and find solutions regarding the growing textile waste crises in the Western Isles.

Sustainability Lecturer at UHI North, West and Hebrides, Rebecca Smith convened regional partners to press for urgent, scalable solutions.

The key takeaway from the meeting was to identify the appropriate additional support to aid the voluntary sector to deal with the volume of unwanted clothes that is accumulating throughout the Outer Hebrides.

There's concern that unwanted clothes may increasingly end up in residual waste streams and landfill, contributing to tonnages that will eventually show up through landfill taxes.
