Resumo
The Orkney Energy Landscapes set out to explore this history. Energy themes – peat, oil, uranium, wind, wave – were explored in five main study areas across the islands, visiting West Mainland, Eday and Flotta. An interdisciplinary approach combined contemporary archaeology, social anthropology, public engagement, and training. Sites were explored using archaeological walkover and measured survey, building recording, and oral history through a series of open public events providing basic training in techniques. A school outreach programme visited primary schools in Stromness, Evie, Firth and Eday where energy themes local to the school were explored. The project was a collaboration between Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA), University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Archaeology Institute, and the Department of Social Anthropology, University of St Andrews and was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
