Resumo
Aquaculture is an important food production sector in the UK that supports
a broad workforce, including highly skilled jobs in rural communities where
other opportunities are often limited (BiGGAR Economics, 2020). In 2022,
marine aquaculture output in the UK was 193,000 tonnes live weight valued
at $1,184 million (FAO, 2022). There is significant potential for aquaculture
to develop further throughout the UK. However, in 2022, 87.5% tonnage
and 93.4% value of UK marine aquaculture was attributable to salmon
production, leaving a vulnerability to disturbance to this sector.
