The 16th International Small Island Cultures (ISIC) Conference was jointly organised by the Small Island Cultures Research Initiative (SICRI) and the Centre for Island Creativity at the University of the Highlands and Islands. It focused on Island creativity, ingenuity, and practice and aimed at engaging presenters from different disciplinary fields, as well as practitioners interested in island issues, to share their research and experiences. While the focus was on creative islands, the event also aimed at promoting a critical research agenda for island studies in general. Islands have long been centres of creativity, ingenuity, and innovation. ISIC 2022 sought to share knowledge of, and celebrate facets of, island creativity that highlight the many ways island societies put their diverse creative skills into practice, from their distinct responses to political, environmental, economic, and social challenges, to the development of island creative economies and the promotion of community well-being. The following themes will be explored during this event: 1. Creative Economy on Islands 2. Experience of the Island-based Creative Practitioner 3. Creative Entrepreneurship on Islands 4. Creative Approaches to Island Political, Environmental, Economic and Social Challenges 5. Creative Approaches to Sustainable Island Tourism 6. Other themes relating to Islands Studies will also be considered
