Teaching expertise

14 years experience in Higher Education, including roles at four universities across Scotland, England, and New Zealand.  Roles include Lecturer, Professional Teaching Fellow, and Senior Lecturer - currently Head of Undergraduate Nursing at UHI. Extensive experience in teaching (face-to-face and online), assessment, and curriculum development and design, including leading on programme approval events.

Areas of teaching expertise include human anatomy and physiology, research methods, and clinical skills.  

Research expertise

Experience in both clinical research (research nurse and data manager in Haematology, involved in studies across a range of haematological malignancies and clotting disorders) and academic research (Trial Manager for multi-centre, pragmatic, research studies, including the PRISM and REFLUX Trials).

Experienced in quantitative research methods (RCTs and questionnaire surveys), qualitative research methods (Focus Groups), and mixed methods research.

Services expertise

Almost 30 years experience as a Registered Nurse, having worked in many clinical specialities (including haematology, ENT/general surgery, theatre recovery, day procedure unit), in both the public and private sectors, and in the UK and overseas.

Experience as a STEM careers advocate, and in public engagement, having taken part in/run events coordinated by, or involving, The Royal Society of Edinburgh, UHI STEM Hub, Skills Development Scotland, Inverness Science Festival, and 'I'm a Scientist; Get me Out of Here'.
