Marinobacter as an algal panacea?

Student thesis: Doctor of Philosophy (awarded by OU/Aberdeen)

Résumé

Microalgae are increasingly being grown on an industrial scale for the production' of commercial commodities such as oils, pigments and proteins. Among the many technical and physiological challenges to increasing the scale of cultivation and optimizing sustainability is the non-trivial management of contamination15. Although research has been conducted on algal-bacteria interactions and bacteria-bacteria interactions, little is known about how bacteria interact with industrially relevant algae, and how these interactions function in more complex'systems.
