Résumé
Brief survey of 17C and early-18C vernacular Catholic literature in Scottish Gaelic. This brief overview of surviving references to Catholicism in early modern Scottish Gaelic vernacular literature outlines an absence as much as it delineates a presence. Such references are less common than might be expected, principally because of contemporary political considerations, but also, perhaps, due to the Reformed Church allegiances of the pioneer eighteenth-century collectors of oral literature.
