Résumé
The sociological importance of aviation to the Northern Isles is an under-explored area of research. Very little primary data exists ¿ no focused sociological surveys have been done, no analysis undertaken. This paper, which deals specifically with the Northern Isles, i.e. Orkney and Shetland, explores and evaluates some of the developments and contraindications brought about by the arrival of aviation links to this seemingly remote part of the British Isles.
