The Ethnology of the 'Old Ways' in Gaelic Scotland: "There's another road near the highway"

Résultats de recherche: Chapter (peer-reviewed)Revue par des pairs

Résumé

An exploration of a formerly dense network of roads and tracks covering the Highlands of Scotland that preceded the military roads of the 18th century and new road patterns of the 'age of improvement'. It challenges an anglocentric view voiced at the time that the region was a 'trackless waste' and offers an ethnology of travel and road usage before the arrival of scientists and tourists.
