Résumé

A robust challenge to a conventional wisdom which is characterised as not just misleading but flawed. An antithesis is offered based on a systematic assembling of a musicology - or 'organology' - never before available, and an analysis of the influence of Baroque instrumentation in Scotland and of neo-Baroque music-making.
