Kindred: Living in the Landscape

This publication is the catalogue for the exhibition Kindred which took place at the Helgeland Museum, opening on 20 May 2025, in Nesna, Norway. I exhibited the films Bloodlines #1, #2, #3, #4,#5 through a collection of cards holding QR codes for each of five short films. Bloodlines is the third film in a trilogy of films I made for the Living in the Landscape project (LiLa). Bloodlines builds on the previous films in that it considers shared experiences related to the industrialisation of northern land and seascapes. While these experiences are hyper-local, many are widely shared by communities in different northern and Arctic countries. By sharing experience of the impact these industries have on social and more than human relationships, the film aims to reflect glimpses of strength in communality, and hope in kinship.

Kindred was part of the Living in the Landscape (Lila) summer school series which was an international and interdisciplinary platform for landscape research, where artistic exploration and academic work meet. Across five schools, 95 participants have contributed to this growing community, sharing knowledge, but also moments of connection, discovery and reflection.
After taking place in a number of countries since 2020, the summer school series concluded in 2025 at Nesna, with an exhibition and seminar. Most of the program will took place physically at Nord University, Nesna Campus, auditorium (Lærerhøgskole 2), as well as the exhibition opening at Helgeland Museum, department Nesna-Havnevegen 1.

The Living in the Landscape summer schools are funded by Nordplus Horizontal and are organized by Nord University and the University of Lapland, in collaboration with: Umeå University, University of the Highlands and Islands, and University of the West of Scotland. This year is the second year that Helgeland Museum participates as a partner.
