Description
The Social Art Summit was a review of Socially Engaged Arts Practice in the UK. It was convened by the Social Art Network, an artist-led organisation, with the aim of exploring what it means to be making art through social engagement in our society today. Aimed at artists, activists, community groups, curators, students, academics, funders and wider sectors working in the social realm, the Summit aimed to develop agency in the field of art and social engagement. Through building a network, showcasing practice and expanding dialogue it laid the foundations for a Social Art Biennale, to be held in changing locations around the UK.One of the key themes for the summit was Higher Education. A panel devoted to this subject formed an element of the Summit and was convened by the Programme Leaders for the two MA programmes currently running in the UK, Roxane Permar, at the University of the Highlands and Islands, and Loraine Leeson, at Middlesex University in London.
