Use of a recording fluorometer for continuous measurement of phytoplankton concentration

Resumen

By linking a battery operated logger unit and power supply with a submersible fluorometer we have been able to make continuous untended measurements of phytoplankton chlorophyll fluorescence, and hence estimate algal biomass for periods of up to 35 days at moorings. Calibration and data processing procedures are described, and some examples of the results of deployments in waters around the United Kingdom are presented.
