Description of project aims
Recently, calorie restriction has been touted as a potential intervention to enhance longevity (López-Lluch et al., 2015). Recent reports suggest that calorie restriction may reduce CVD risk through modulating oxidative stress levels (Minamiyama et al., 2007), DNA damage (Heilbronn et al., 2006) as well as improving endothelial function. It has been proven to be beneficial for weight loss in obese individuals (Miyaki et al., 2009), and taking together the benefits on body mass regulation, as well as the clear benefits on the heart and the vasculature, calorie restriction may be a worthwhile strategy for improving health of the obese population.
This study aims to:
Investigate the effect of calorie restriction on CAC number and function in obese males.
Investigate the effect of calorie restriction on body composition in obese males.
