Academic Qualifications

Dr Ragnhild Ljosland has been a lecturer with the University of the Highlands and Islands since 2009, initially with the Centre for Nordic Studies and later with the UHI Archaeology Institute. Her academic background is in Scandinavian language and literature, graduating from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2008 with a PhD in sociolinguistics.
 
Since joining UHI, Ragnhild Ljosland has continued researching linguistic and sociolinguistic topics, as well as literature and runology. She publishes on a range of topics, such as Orkney and Shetland dialect grammar, historical sociolinguistics, Scots language, runic inscriptions, contemporary language policy, and Orkney literature.
