Why is programming so hard to learn?

Abstract

We present preliminary results of an ongoing study into the barriers to student learning in programming. Unlike similar studies, we look at students who have not previously been high achievers in the education system. The key barriers identified so far are poor problem solving strategies and emotional issues caused by previous educational experiences
