Abstract

Motivation
• Premixed flames: widely found in transportation and energy production
(e.g., spark ignition and gas turbine engines)
• Gas turbine applications involve high Reynolds number
• Operating conditions of modern engine applications go toward lean burn at
high pressure
• Different combustion modes according to the turbulence level
• Goal: Understanding burning behavior at high Karlovitz number conditions
- Turbulent burning rate
- Turbulent flame instability
- Local extinction/ignition phenomena
