Abstract
ens [Spence], Isobel [Isabella, Issobell(d. March 1653) was born in St Andrews in Fife as the oldest or second oldest of five daughters of Sir James Spens (d. 1632) and Agnes Durie.
In 1619 a marriage contract was closed between Isobel and Sir James Ramsay (1589?–1638/9), a Scottish officer in Swedish service who later achieved the rank of Major-General. In order to facilitate her marriage Spens had provided Isobel with a dowry and his will stipulated that she should also receive his gold bracelets worth 100 Imperial dollars......
