Skills and capacities of workers and participants

Victoria Johnson, Andy West

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter considers the skills and capacities of researchers, decision-makers and workers in organisations, including development agencies and service providers. It looks at how the skills and capacities of adults and of children and young people changed through the research and evaluation projects, and summarises some of the key learning gained from these processes and through revisits. The chapter also looks at the processes of developing skills and capacities of adults who were involved in the research and evaluation, and the ways in which the capacities of children and young people evolved during the project. Participants emphasised the vital role of the mentors in enabling the young people to get the most out of the participatory approach in the scheme and in the research and evaluation. The experience of transformational change at both individual and institutional level was emphasised by many of the participants in the revisit for Saying Power.
