Politics of the edge

Research output: Contribution to specialist publication or web blogBlog article

Abstract

In this blog I will question the concept of ‘the edge’ as it pertains to policy and political structures. As I don’t fully understand (or believe in) the idea of an edge I will base most of my examples on island communities, which are perhaps easier to consider as the geographical limits of Scotland. However, as I will set out, I think there is an argument for the whole of the Highlands and Islands (although Inverness is debatable) to be considered under this externally-imposed, politically-constructed idea of those who live outside of the ‘core’ of Scotland.
