K(i)æfsir in the Old Västgöta and Östgöta Laws

Abstract

The article discusses a word, k(i)æfsir, found only a couple of times in early Swedish laws and in Snorra Edda, a work interpreted as a slavic word for a young woman, a word borrowed into Scandinavian language for, probably, a slave woman.
