title = "Coimhearsnachd ch{\`a}nanach mar fhoillseachadh {\`a}raid ann an sgr{\`i}obhaidhean bho dheireadh an 19mh linn.",
abstract = "Exploring the richness and diversity of colloquial Gaelic (generally poorly recorded in the dictionaries) and the emergence of a periodocal press in the late 19th century, a 'linguistic community' can be identified in the huge number of Gaels able to read and write in their own tongue (the product of the Gaelic Schools movement). Drawing on 'material culture' and traditional 'technical' terminology to illustrate the discourse, this serves to demonstrate aspects of shrinking of vocabulary with the disappearance of context within daily life. note = "This is one in a series of 4 interlocking research papers into aspects of Scottish Gaelic lexicography and linguistics, shaped to augment our understanding of current changes in the situation of the language such as language shift and decline in the number of speakers. Topics include the identification and definition (in context) of 'lost' terminology, the discovery of a hitherto unrecognised concentration in the zone of 'material culture', and the identification of a dispersed 'linguistic community' growing out of the Gaelic Schools movement and the new, late 19th century periodical press. ; Rannsachadh na G{\`a}idhlig 2012 ; Conference date: 21-08-2012 Through 23-08-2012",
