Removal of CIP3 priority contaminants with sewage sludge based biochars: a circular approach for the sustainable water sector

Project Details

Description of project aims

his project investigates sewage-sludge-derived biochar (SSB) as a sustainable filtration material for removing priority contaminants from wastewater. It evaluates the removal of nickel, lead, carbamazepine and clarithromycin, focusing on adsorption performance and mechanisms, application under realistic conditions, and regeneration after saturation. The research combines waste valorisation with water treatment, supporting circular-economy approaches and lower-carbon wastewater management.
