Personal profile

Research Expertise

My research interests are focused on climatic influences on sedimentation in continental settings.  Lakes provide particularly high resolution depositories of environmental and climatic change.  My work can allow us to examine climatic trends and understand global climatic systems back through earth history.  Wider application of this research to climatic and tectonic signals recorded in a regional context is important in correlation and the prediction of facies distribution within continental settings and is therefore significant for hydrocarbon exploration.

Research into the sedimentological records of environmental change across some of the greatest extinction events (P-T & T-J) to affect life on Earth has augmented my research interests.

I also have extensive knowledge of the North Atlantic region, built on numerous field campaigns in East Greenland and Northern Scotland.  This work has largely been industry funded and has provided me the opportunity to contribute my knowledge and ideas to a wide range of research projects tackling significant industry problems, ranging from diagenetic and charge studies in exhumed hydrocarbon traps to basin scale stratigraphic and sedimentological studies.
