Research Expertise

Shaun Fraser has an interdisciplinary background and broad research interests involving topics in fisheries science and marine ecology. In 2017, Shaun completed his interdisciplinary PhD, titled “Acoustic Investigation of the Hydrodynamics and Ecology of a Tidal Channel and the Impacts of a Marine Renewable Energy Installation” and then accepted a position as Fisheries Scientist at the NAFC Marine Centre. In 2022, he was promoted to the role of Senior Fisheries Scientist and in 2024 he accepted his current role of Senior Scientist and Fisheries Lead at UHI Shetland. Recent projects have had a particular focus on fishing gear technology, hydroacoustics, stock assessment, inshore fish populations, and marine renewable energy.
