Personal profile

Research Interests

I am a lecturer in Fine Art at Moray School of Art. I teach across both practice and theory on the BA Fine Art course and I also supervise postgraduate studies.

I have over twenty-five years’ experience teaching Fine Art in a higher education context, at The University of Dundee, The University of Edinburgh, and Edinburgh College of Art, with degrees to PhD level in both art practice and art history. My qualifications have enabled me to teach across all disciplines in Fine Art, and I am an enthusiastic advocate of interdisciplinary learning.

My artistic practice is rooted in drawing and painting, expanding into printmaking, sound, video, installation, performance, curation, and writing, which ranges from theory to experimental texts. I exhibit and publish my work nationally and internationally, and have work in public and private collections, including several major commissions.

I am a native Highlander, and my research interests include Highland landscape, philosophy, mythology, spirituality, music, and underground subcultures. I have been involved in several major funded research projects, such as Window to the West, exploring the visual in Gaelic culture. I am also a musician and DJ.

My vision as an educator, artist, and researcher, is rooted in a fundamental intertwining of theory and practice, crossing and dissolving disciplinary boundaries, where artistic practice and theoretical discourse are mutually enfolded.
