Research expertise
My PhD which was completed in 2020 focused on the effects of green exercise and physical activity conducted in nature in improving mental health. The PhD examined several areas including health promotion, dissociative cognitions, behaviour change, health motivators and the role of green exercise in type 2 diabetes.
Since completing my PhD, my early career research has focused on physical activity, cardiac rehabilitation, and the effects of connected health technologies (telehealth, wearable technology, online platforms). I have been employed as a post-doc researcher with the University of the Highlands and Islands since 2021 working within the active health lab department.
During my time I have led 2 ECME funded projects. The first focused on providing older adults, conducting low-to-moderate levels of physical activity with a 6-week online exercise intervention to understand what physical and psychological benefits were seen. The second project builds on the first, examining what the difference in intensity is between online and face-to-face exercise classes and also how the two experiences differ.
Teaching expertise
During my short time as post-doc researcher I have the opportunity to develop my teaching skills in a number of guest lectures.
1. Presenting to undergraduate students at Edinburgh Napier University around how connected health technologies can be applied within research.
2. Presenting to HNC sports students around health conditions, exercise rehabilitation and research skills.
