Research expertise

My research background is in the application of mass spectrometry to study biological processes, particularly proteomics. My current research is focussed on developing mass spectrometric approaches to address issues as varied as sustainable protein production in aquaculture to new materials for cardiovascular science. I have recently moved to the 'dark side' and have developed, in collaboration with Professor Phil Whitfield, a growing interest in lipid analysis. I am also the Head of Postgraduate Researcher Development for UHI and will be working with the PGR student body and staff members to enhance the student experience and enable equity of provision across a demographically remote university. I also head the University Athena SWAN initiative and succesfully lead the Institutional application for Bronze accreditation.
