Personal profile

Research Interests

My research interests are centered around the use of remote sensing to better understand the impact of climate change on glaciated environments, as well as associated geohazards such as landslides and outburst floods.

Teaching Expertise

Since 2022, I have worked part-time as a lecturer at UHI. I currently teach a range of courses in Earth Sciences from undergraduate to MSc.

Research Expertise

Whilst studying for a Masters by Research at the University of Dundee, I employed remotely sensed imagery to monitor glacier and lake evolution in the Bolivian Andes at high spatiotemporal resolution. I developed a protocol for assessing glacial lake susceptibility to producing outburst floods and applied it to the lake inventory - identifying those lakes which represented the highest hazard. Additionally, I analysed a global glacier thickness dataset in order to identify potential sites for future lake formation in the region, given continued conditions of deglaciation.

PhD Project

My current project focuses on landscape evolution in deglaciating environments and involves the use of high resolution digital elevation models to better constrain the impact of deglaciation since the last glacial maximum.

Expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action
