The Centre for Rural Health Sciences is a research-focused university department within the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). The centre carries out research, knowledge exchange, commercialisation, consultancy and teaching activities related to the interdisciplinary study of health, wellbeing and healthcare in rural environments. The centre is part of the UHI Institute of Health Research and Innovation.
The following research themes summarise the breadth of our work, although many of our projects cut across more than one theme:
- i) understanding health and illness in rural areas,
- ii) the design, evaluation and sustainability of rural health services,
- iii) digital technology in rural health,
- iv) non-pharmaceutical interventions in rural areas,
- v) rural mental health.
The Centre for Rural Health Sciences continues the work of the Division of Rural Health and Wellbeing and the Centre for Rural Health (CRH), and the Highlands and Islands Health Research Institute (HIHRI) in 2004.
