Taking time travel from hobby to tourism business

Invited seminar for University of Central Oklahoma Medieval Society.
The seminar described how Orkney Time Travel works to bring periods of Orkney’s past to life for tourists and local residents, in a mixture of commercial and community ‘time travel’ experiences. The emphasis will be on how to achieve memorable experiences without access to facilities such as reconstructed historic buildings or ships and on a low budget, and how to negotiate authenticity in a tourism setting which requires compromises necessitated by health and safety and practical restrictions.
