Shift and Change

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising a conference

Description

This Virtual Symposium is the eleventh organised by UHI Shetland. It focuses on a range of changes that are taking place within socially engaged art practices and institutions and the shift in emphasis, focus or direction we wish to see.

The process and actions of making and becoming different will be discussed and shared through a series of provocations, presentations and conversations ranging from union support for artists to the inclusion of nonhumans as participants.

The symposium is informal in style and aimed at socially engaged artists, students, community activators, institutional members and interested audiences who wish to consider and explore emerging and possible practices in social art.

The virtual symposium takes place on 30th June 2025, from 10 am to 5 pm. It is organised by alumni and staff from the MA Art and Social Practice based in the Centre for Island Creativity at UHI Shetland.

Keynote Speaker: Kathrin Böhm. Other speakers, Eleanor White (Senior Culture/SHIFT Officer at Culture for Climate Scotland), Alina Ben Larbi, Nadine Malcolm, Mara Marxt Lewis and Emily Nicholl.

Delegates are free to attend the whole event or drop in to sessions that are of particular interest.
