Description
This involves a series of public engagement activities in Dornoch in 2016. Our 'Royal Dornoch' PhD student, Wade Cormack, is playing a key part in these, continuing public engagement since 2013 which has seen the studentship achieve considerable media attention. Wade has taken part in activities such as annual lectures at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club, talks to the University of Aberdeen History Post-Graduate seminar Series, British Society for Sports History (Scotland), the UHI Research Conference and the University of Aberdeen / Trinity College Dublin ‘The Burn’ International Post-Graduate Symposium. In 2015, he delivered a guest lecture at the University of Guelph ‘Scottish Roundtable lecture Series’ hosted by the Centre for Scottish Studies, Guelph Ontario. He has written blogs for the Royal Dornoch Golf Club as well as for Historylinksdornoch. Wade also spear-headed the Dornoch Primary School '400 years of Golf in Dornoch' timeline project, at which I and several other Centre staff members participated. Each class in the school created an artistic rendering of an event in Dornoch’s sporting past. The project is now a temporary exhibit at Historylinks museum, and is a fitting finale to the ‘400 Years’ celebrations. These activities connect, in addition, with the 'Firths and Fjords' Coastal History conference, organised by the Centre for History, and which took place from 31 March to 2 April 2016. Besides the academic sessions, some of which took place at the golf club, the conference had an exhibition space for members of the public, an excursion, musical performances and ceilidh, all with a coastal theme.Period | 1 Jan 2016 → 1 Dec 2016 |
