Community Archaeology, Research and Training Project. The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Archaeology Institute has been commissioned by Orkney Islands Council on a Heritage Lottery Funded project commemorating the 900th anniversary year of the death of St Magnus. A series of community activities and events based around archaeological fieldwork will enhance our understanding of the story of St Magnus, primarily in the Palace village and environs area of Birsay. Activities include archive research and desk-based assessment training, geophysical survey, excavation, coastal survey, noust surveys, walkover survey, schools visits, and music and storytelling workshops. These are based arounf the themes of Movement & pilgrimage, Religion & Power, Stones & Bones. Commissioned by Orkney Islands Council, Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund
