Activity: KE and Outreach activitiesTypes of Public engagement and outreach - Festival/Exhibition

Description

On Sunday, 20th April, Burra Public Hall was transformed into a hub of marine exploration as families, students, and ocean enthusiasts gathered to experience Hope the Inflatable Humpback Whale. The event, brought to Shetland by Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), offered a rare and immersive opportunity to step inside a life-sized humpback whale and learn about the wonders of the marine world.

Visitors explored the internal structure of the inflatable whale, gaining insights into humpback anatomy and the challenges these majestic creatures face in the wild. Experts from UHI Shetland and SMASS were on hand to share their knowledge and answer questions, while interactive sessions introduced attendees to BeachTrack and other citizen science projects from RSPB, UHI Stem and BlueConnect focused on marine conservation.
