Description

The themes of the Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 have followed those of Norway’s Arctic Council chairship priorities which focuses on several core issues, including the impacts of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to enhance the well-being of people living in the region.

The congress took place from 29 May to 3 June 2024 in Bodø, Norway, and was hosted by Nordland Research Institute and Nord University. It brought three conferences together for the first time in Bodø (European Capital of Culture 2024) - the International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences (ICASS) XI, UArctic Congress 2024, and High North Dialogue 2024. This collaboration demonstrates commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting meaningful discussions among diverse stakeholders. The Arctic Congres Bodø 2024 underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing the Arctic's complex challenges.

The congress included high-level plenary sessions, several parallel sessions, network activities, and social and cultural events. These brought together opportunities for researchers, policymakers, businesses, and students to increase their connectivity and knowledge exchange on Arctic issues. IASSA and UArctic also held their assemblies.

The Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 takes place on Sámi land. The congress’ logo honours the local cultures, and participants were welcomed to Bodø in Lule Sámi, Pite Sámi, Norwegian and English languages.
