Description
Roxane Permar is a visual artist based in Shetland (Scotland) where she is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Island Creativity, University of the Highlands and Islands. Her work addresses societal threats, specifically nuclear disaster and climate crisis, including the impact and fears these can cause. In this presentation Permar will frame her work in relation to the key ‘landscapes’ she explores, the social, ‘knitted’ and ‘illuminated’ through community based projects in Shetland, and landscapes of trauma and crisis as in the nuclear landscapes of her collaboration, Cold War Projects, and Landscape in Pain. Her work spans the northern and Arctic regions through the geopolitical consequences of these global societal threats.Roxane is visiting professor in the sculpture study area between 17th and 28th April. She is running a workshop for students around the theme “Finding your inner guerrilla artist”.
