Abstract

This chapter investigates the links between coastal cultures in Scotland and Norway after 1700 by examining the cross-cultural networks and regions stimulated by the movement of people, objects and narratives across the North Sea. Using approaches and examples from Norway in particular, but also from the wider research fields of transnational studies and cultural transfer, the chapter points to new directions in researching coastal spaces in Scotland and Britain.
