Persönliches Profil

Research Interests

My research practices are focused on creating knowledge that enacts social justice with marginalised groups. As a researcher, I strive to understand how research methodologies and methods can be shaped through relationships with the people and communities I interact with. I have a strong sense of social justice and believe passionately in relational approaches to working with people.

Teaching Expertise

I currently teach on both the undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes at UHI. I have experience of supervising students at Masters level and will shortly be undertaking my first doctoral supervision. In my role as lead for postgraduate taught programmes in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at UHI, I have responsibility for the day-to-day operational management and cohersiveness of the student experience throughout the postgraduate taught programmes.  In September, I am enrolled to start a PG Cert Teaching in Higher Education.

Academic Qualifications

PhD Nursing  Queen Margaret University (2022)

BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing  Queen Margaret University (2014)

PhD Project

My PhD research explored how nurses and deaf, British Sign Language (BSL) users can interact and communicate effectively with one another. The research was situated in the critical creative paradigm and underpinned by Gadamer's hermeneutics and Merleau-Ponty's philosophy of embodiment. The findings highlighted the significance of the historical, political and social contexts in which knowledge is produced.
