The vision of the Centre for Rural Health Sciences at UHI is to improve the health and well-being of the people of the Highlands and Islands through excellence in rural health and social care education, research and knowledge exchange. We are dedicated to creating a supportive and collaborative environment by valuing our staff, students and communities.
Within the centre we carry out research, knowledge exchange, consultancy and teaching activities related to the interdisciplinary study of health, wellbeing and healthcare in rural environments. The following research themes summarise the breadth of our work, although many of our projects cut across more than one theme:
- Prescribing
- Physical Activity for Health
- Frailty and care for older people
- Social prescribing
- Quality Improvement
- Aging and dementia
The Centre for Rural Health Sciences was formed in 2024 and continues the work of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Department of Optometry and the Division of Rural Health and Wellbeing.
