Shetland Fisheries Statistics 2017

In 2017:
- 63,000 tonnes of fish and shellfish, worth £77 million, were landed in Shetland, more than half of it by Shetland fishing boats.
- Just over one-fifth of all the finfish landed in Scotland, and just under one-fifth of that landed in the UK, were landed in Shetland.
- More fish and shellfish were landed in Shetland – and in Lerwick – that in any other port in the UK, except Peterhead.
- More finfish were landed in Shetland than in all of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Shetland boats landed 120,000 tonnes of fish and shellfish worth £112 million.
- Shetland boats accounted for one-quarter of all the fish and shellfish landed by Scottish boats, and one-sixth of that landed by UK boats.
- A record 21,000 tonnes of whitefish worth £42 million were landed in Shetland, more than three-quarters of it by local boats.
- The weight of whitefish landed in Shetland has almost tripled since the electronic fish auction was introduced in 2003, and the value has increased almost six-fold.
- Lerwick, Scalloway and Cullivoe were all in the top-12 UK ports for whitefish landings.
- Shetland boats landed 17,000 tonnes of whitefish worth £35 million, almost all of it in Shetland.
- 40,000 tonnes of pelagic fish, worth £30 million, were landed in Shetland.
- 2,000 tonnes of shellfish, worth £5 million, were landed in Shetland.
