Contribution of a story to an article in Journal "Nature" about what makes a good day in science.

On 18 April 2025 (World Heritage Day), I spent more than 21 hours running 114 kilometres across northern Scotland’s Flow Country to celebrate the world’s only peatland to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I did this as a fundraising campaign for the Flow Country Partnership, a charity in Golspie, UK, that will manage the world’s largest intact blanket bog, which stores 400 million tonnes of carbon. Some parts of the bog are remote and spectacular. It was a fantastic, albeit painful, way to celebrate the peatlands and raise awareness about them.
